POETRY
MY BODY IS A POEM
Laura Olvera

My heart, filled to the top with ink ,
Writes day and night verses,
Verses that torn me apart and sew me back together
but at the end they are just words I can’t comprehend.
My veins, full with words,
flow through my body and into my brain.
These words seem to understand me,
and with each beat of my heart
they seem to recognize their poet.
I hardly know how to draw them out
And I wish I knew,
because after rough days they just turn into burning paper,
and into a fire I can’t extinguish.
My brain somehow puts the words all together,
Clears them all up and carved them down,
And then my souls turn comes by
and draws them out of my body and into the world
for that they can be turned into dreams and not only thoughts.
