Freedom as a path to be taken upon
Sergio J.
The impact of the album resonates with a previous work of mine: “SET YOU FREE” by DUSTY is a song from said album which takes upon the emotional attachment as well as the denial of liberty. But, the question is: Why is it good? How does the melody impact the listener?
The emotional impact of the song is based upon the lyrics, for example, one of the lines that are mentioned is: “You’re mine until I set you free”. Which, by it, impacts the profundity of the song, giving it more emotional impact to the listener. In a way, the lyrics resemble the loss of something that encompasses humanity as a whole—one’s own humanity—the loss of everything, everything that was held once dropped as a drop of water upon a pool.
Taking into account the melody, it has a slow tempo, low BPM (approximately 80-100 BPM) that goes with a chilling tone; accompanied by the lyrics that maintain the same voice, empty at a point, but impactful as it shows how even some people that do not have a thing left, do play around with others, or as how the song says: “I can never let you leave”.
While also listening to “AS FAR AS IT GETS” –which comes from the same album as SET YOU FREE, this does add up further depth to the emotional landscape that DUSTY explores in “SET YOU FREE.”. Between the lines “I can’t feel,” “All I wanted was you,” and “I can’t tell what’s real”, they reveal a similar struggle with emotional numbness, longing, and confusion that are, in fact, in the song that is currently being analysed.
Additionally, the creator, DUSTY is also known for having these kinds of touchy subjects in his songs, having as a main theme the emotions a human feels, in particular the negative ones. So the influence was the pain of it, the loss, the emptiness, the longing and confusion, even possibly the story of DUSTY.
In conclusion, as the cherry on-top of the cake: SET YOU FREE by DUSTY is a song that resembles the loss of emotions, and the affair of not letting go, holding towards the past, losing the remaining humanity, that also resembles what a forgotten theme of the poem written.
