BANKSY: HIS WORLD IN ONE PLACE
Roberta Saldaña Torre
What is art for? Why do artists do art? These are questions that many people don’t think about because art is seen everywhere, and we don’t really pay attention to the actual meaning behind it, what the artists like Da Vinci or Picasso want to say to us through their paintings, though there are some artists that don’t want us to know their identities, but why is that? Banksy is an anonymous street artist who wants to give a message to the people through art pieces. This artist has a rebellious attitude and no one knows who this person, or group of people, is or are.
Bansky’s paintings give out very important awareness, as well as having an impact on people.
This experience is worth visiting because it’s an interactive art gallery, it allows the public to connect more with the art pieces, the art pieces also look to give out an important message, as well as awareness on certain topics. There are activities like VR and a simulator for painting on the wall that make the gallery much more fun for the public. Banksy uses art to talk about capitalism, politics, war, royal families, policemen, violence, etc., which are all important topics portrayed in Banksy’s gallery that people should get more informed on. The gallery presents Banky’s works and gives importance to the message that the artist wants to give.
Street artists are more likely to go through their art path with an anonymous identity, because of legal issues since they work with graffiti and painting on the streets, not always with permission. Baksy represents street artists in a very authentic and sincere way. Their art gallery gives out fun experiences and an opportunity to create memories for the public. Around the gallery, there is a VR experience in which the public can participate and connect more with Bansky’s art pieces by showing a close-up and live-action of their artworks.
The gallery also has an interactive spot in which people can draw and create their own “street art”. This experience includes a digital pen that people can draw with on the wall, which is a projector. Finally, a 360° experience in which Bansky’s art pieces come to life is available in the gallery. Making the art gallery a more interactive space for the public benefits the people who attend it since they can have more unique experiences when visiting the event. All of these features present in the art gallery contribute to the objective of the artist which is to give out messages that are important topics, like Banksy's posture against violence.
Banksy’s Art Gallery presents some of their art pieces like a statue that gives reference to his “Flower Thrower'' painting, art pieces like “Flying Copper” and “Queen Victoria” were transformed and presented in the art gallery, but in a more creative way. All around the gallery, there are cutouts of some artworks, statues, realistic features, and actual graffiti paintings, which makes the gallery more interactive with the public and makes the art pieces stand out even more since they are not just shown in regular frames hanging around the walls. And if you expect a lot of walking around, don't. There's not much walking needed, so you can invite your grandma!
The Banksy Art Gallery brought to Monterrey, Mexico by Sensea Immersive, shows how Banksy’s art revolutionizes street art and opens a new creative path for many new artists. The artist’s unique style is very attractive to many people, especially young teenagers who look for inspiration and find acts of rebellion interesting. After attending Banksy’s Art Gallery people will most likely be more informed on many controversial and important topics, and some will be motivated to spread awareness on these, just like Bansky does.
