GOSSIP GIRL
Karen Escareño
The main plot of the series is based on Gossip Girl, which is a well-known blog on the Internet, which narrates day-by-day gossip, love, family, and economic conflicts of a group of young billionaires from the elite of Manhattan.
The series shows what life is like for the elite of Manhattan, on the Upper East Side. There are 6 protagonists, but as the series progresses, characters join or separate from the group.
1. SERENA VAN DER WOODSEN
Serena is portrayed by Blake Lively
She's the daughter of William and Lily van der Woodsen. The story begins with her return to New York from boarding school. Shortly after her return, she realizes a lot has changed since she left, including her friendship with her best friend, Blair Waldorf.
Serena is considered the "It Girl" of the Upper East Side. Throughout the series, Serena has an on-again, off-again relationship with Dan Humphrey. She is best friends with Blair Waldorf.
2. BLAIR WALDORF
Leighton Meester portrays Blair Waldorf.
She’s the daughter of Harold and Eleanor Waldorf, respectively, a successful lawyer and fashion designer. Their parents divorced. After her breakup with Nate Archibald, she has an ongoing up-and-down relationship with Chuck Bass.
Despite his manipulative behavior, he has a sensitive and loving nature. This side is shown when Blair must come to the defense of someone she cares about. In particular, Serena or Chuck evokes this protective and warm side. In romantic terms, Blair often finds herself torn between her own expected desires and what she really wants. Except for Chuck, Blair almost always pursues relationships with men who offer a status symbol (Nate was a handsome Archibald or the royal titles that went with Lord Marcus or Prince Louis).
Blair is regarded as the "Queen B" of the Upper East Side. She is best friends with Serena. Blair is my favorite character. After all she is very confident, and whenever she wants something, she does not give up until it is achieved (even though sometimes it is only of benefit to her and affects others).
3. CHUCK BASS
Ed Westwick plays chuck.
Chuck is the son of Bart Bass. He has a good style and sense of fashion. His only interest is money. After his affairs with numerous girls, his only sincere relationship comes when he begins dating Blair Waldorf. Throughout the series, he and Blair have an on-off relationship, but end up getting married at the end.
Chuck is very self-centered. His “narcissism” is evident, often quoting "I'm Chuck Bass" after someone asks why he deserves such things.
One of the reasons why Chuck is my favorite male character is because of the way he reacts in different situations or problems, he’s also one of the most handsome characters.
4. NATE ARCHIBALD
Chace Crawford plays Nate Archibald. His best friend is Chuck Bass.
He is considered the "golden boy". He is a very warm and trusting person. He is kind and affectionate, especially with his closest friends.
He's also not that interested in all the wealth and elitist customs of the Upper East Side world. He is not comfortable with the privileges that his family's money and status give him because he thinks he does not deserve them and that they only control him.
Nate is one of my favorite characters, he has a slightly different way to “be”, from everyone else, he is very understanding, and he is also the most handsome in the entire series.
5. DAN HUMPHREY
Penn Badgley plays Dan.
Dan is knowledgeable and is often friendly and helpful. He cares a lot about the people he loves and is very protective. He likes to be "well-rounded."
I don't have much to say about Dan, the truth is that he “clashes” with all of the other characters, although as the series progresses he becomes more and more like everyone.
6. JENNY HUMPHREY
Taylor Momsen plays Jenny Humphrey. She is the younger sister of Dan Humphrey.
At the start of the show, Jenny is portrayed as sweet, innocent, and submissive to Blair and Constance's older girls. However, she changes and becomes like Blair, at one point they become rivals. Jenny is too trusting. Unlike most characters, Jenny doesn't have a set partner or someone she has a soft spot for.
One thing that caught my attention about Jenny was that she knew how to adapt to the “environment”, but at one point she was influenced by what others wanted.
The best thing about this series is the idea of the website called “Gossip Girl”. Due to this, the protagonists are affected, since it has the objective of ridiculing, criticizing, and betraying. Although they don't know who the author of the page is, they all send her messages with secrets, photos, or videos. This causes the "war" between the protagonists on numerous occasions.
Personally, it's my favorite series. I love all of the seasons because, in each episode, you get an idea of who "Gossip Girl" was. But you realize until the last one.
Also, the place where the series takes place, in the elite of Manhattan, is something that makes it more entertaining.
