TIPS

HAIRCOLORS & IDENTITY

Arleth Villanueva

When someone chooses to dye their hair, they aim to express themselves and showcase elements of their personality through their appearance. But with time and experimentation, hair color can become a defining part of someone's identity. We often think of clothing as a symbol of our personality, but our hair is just as powerful. Throughout history, women have manipulated their hair to showcase their femininity, identity, liberation, and more. Even today, we associate a “bad hair day” with a day where nothing goes right; simply because of how our hair looks and how we feel about ourselves is closely linked.

TIPS:

1. Investigate which hair colors go better with your skin color.

2. If you have long hair and want to feel different, cut it short, but if you have it long, you can go to a salon and get hair stanchions.

3. Don't just stick to one color; try as many colors as possible when you find a tone that makes you feel confident, you will know that is the one.

4. Don't be scared to be different, there are many blondes, brunettes, and dark-haired people in this world, so if you like colors like pink, purple, blue or even neon yellow: DO IT!

5. There are also many hairstyles such as: waves, curls, braids, low/ high ponytails, buns, and many more. Find the one that highlights your favorite features.

How much we can depend on ouw hair as a part of our identity varies from person to person.

Regardless of its significance, your hair is a visible part of your appearance and often intersects with multiple facets of your identity.
