REVIEW
THE MIDNIGHT LIBRARY
María Fernanda Rodríguez Velasco
"The Midnight Library" written by Matt Haig has a strong message.
The book is about a woman named Nora who doesn't know what to do with her life. Throughout the story, Nora is brought to a place called "The Midnight Library" where she can experience another life according to the different decisions she would have made.
This book deals with an important topic which is happiness and identity. Many of us don't know what makes us happy, so we are looking to find it. This book gives you a completely different perspective on something that we often ask ourselves: What would have happened if I had made that decision? Decisions are always hard to make because one step can completely change our lives. This book shows us that we are leaders of our lives and that we can create a path to find our own identity.
The main character, Nora, is a woman many readers can identify with, because her actions and thoughts are realistic and sincere.
“If you aim to be something you are not, you will always fail. Aim to be you. Aim to look and act and think like you. Aim to be the truest version of you. Embrace that you-ness. Endorse it. Love it. Work hard at it. And don't give a second thought when people mock it or ridicule it. Most gossip is envy in disguise.”
― Matt Haig, The Midnight Library
This book gives us a new perspective on what life could be like and what we want to achieve in our own one. Something that we have to consider when reading the book is that it deals with complicated and powerful topics such as suicide, death, and addictions. This book uses, in a very creative way, the concept of "Alternate lives or parallel lives" as it transports the protagonist through a life path that she never thought possible.
This book is definitely a Must-Read. If you haven't read it, add it to your TBR list (To Be Read) and if you already did, recommend the book to someone else and tell us about your experience reading it!
